OUR STORY
The story of Hiresha’s World of Mushrooms (HWOM) began in the summer of 2013, when a devastating flood swept through the hills of Uttarakhand. As the waters retreated, they left behind a landscape of erased fields and villages where only women and children remained, as many men had gone toward the flood zones for work and never returned.
Our founder, Dr. Hiresha Verma, was then a leader in the IT industry, but her path changed when she saw the silence and sorrow of the women who came to her seeking a way to rebuild. She asked herself a pivotal question: “What could I possibly do that would outlast a flood?”
Dr. Verma realized that the unique Himalayan climate was perfectly suited for mushrooms. Armed with just 2,000 and 25 bags of spawn, she converted her servant quarter into a “laboratory of hope”. She failed many times, but when her first cluster of perfect oyster mushrooms finally grew, she knew she had found a tool for real independence.
She went on to master the science of mycology at the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research in Solan, moving from a tech executive to a social innovator.
What started as a pilot project with three bamboo huts in Village Charba grew into Han Agrocare LLP. For over a decade, Han Agrocare has served as the operational and legal backbone of our mission, achieving major milestones:
Scientific Pioneering: We introduced high-value medicinal species like Shiitake, Ganoderma, and Cordyceps to the Indian market, replacing the need for expensive Chinese imports.
A “Train-and-Buy-Back” Model: We transformed farmers from beneficiaries into entrepreneurs by providing hands-on training and a 100% guaranteed market for their produce.
Zero-Waste Circularity: We implemented sustainable practices that convert agricultural waste-like wheat straw and sawdust into protein-rich superfoods.
Today, as we transition into our new brand identity, Hiresha’s World of Mushrooms (HWOM), our mission is more ambitious than ever. We are no longer just a mushroom farm; we are a women-led agritech enterprise scaling to reach 100,000 rural women.
By integrating Geospatial Intelligence (GIS) and climate-resilient technology, we are building a circular bioeconomy that proves profitability and planetary health go hand-in-hand.
